Machakos ASK Show- 2024
Machakos University Department of Design participated in this year’s ASK show from 5th -8th June 2023. The Department showcased variety of creative work produced by students and staff reflecting on the theme “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,”
Our Stand: Showcasing creativity and sustainable design practices
The Departmental stand was manned by Ms. Mary Munyao (Technologist) with the help of our students Ian Danson and Britney Ogega.

Together the representatives of the department espoused to the judges and audience how this year’s theme was interpreted in the design and development of the products showcased. The team expounded on Sustainable Design, where products designed utilized materials that have a lower carbon footprint, are renewable or can be recycled easily in support of climate-smart agriculture. In essence, the position of the department is that integrating the theme of promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives into product design involves considering environmental impact throughout the product’s lifecycle, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting economic growth that is inclusive and environmentally sustainable.

The show emphasized the role of sustainable design education in nurturing creative talent supporting economic growth for the design industry in Kenya. Below are some of our exhibits:

The department produced trendy corporate T- shirts with unique tribal prints. This unique attire which gives a touch of culture and comfort is available in white and our corporate colours.
